China vs. The WTO

Submitted by Edward Reynolds, Apr 19, 2007 05:26

It is well known that by a wide margin most of China's exports are exported by multi-national companies. China simply has become the world's largest contract employment agency, whereby the multi-nationals need not pay for benefits. China has not complained about the US exporting billions of dollars worth of airplanes, whose technology was partially subsidized by the U.S. government. So we should be careful about that which we complain. In the future, as China begins to build its own aircraft, we had better be ready for WTO complaints. And this is just one example of many that could be cited. When we export grains, etc to China, our farm price supports in no small way influence the price. Not only does this affect China's farmers, who are moving by the millions into the large cities, but also it affects many countries in Africa where agriculture is often the key industry. No wonder that the current round of economic negotiations have been a failure.
