Apparently, Katie Couric is supposed to be the Anchor and Managing Editor of CBS' Evening News, along with being a correspondent for 60 Minutes. Even if someone else writes all of the stories she reads on the air, she should at least edit the articles and to verify that all sources are cited.
Yes, it is a big deal because without giving credit to the author of the article, she is taking credit for their work --- and being paid $15 million per year to do so! Now, someone else has gotten fired when ishe is supposed to be the Managing Editor (true, for the show, but doesn't it also include the blog?) Why doesn't CBS just pay someone $1 million to read sections of the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, or the Washington Post on air?
Why have a blog, if you aren't going to write your own articles? Since she was an English major in college, one might assume she goes to the library periodically. If so, then why was she unable to write the blog article on libraries herself?
Cutesy and perky are not characteristics I expect to see in an Evening News Anchor. I want unbiased news, quality reporting, unbiased questions, Perhaps Katie is in the wrong job. If she thinks people want to see more of the cutesy, perky, laid-back host, then she needs a different show. For the evening news, I want someone like Chet Huntley and David Brinkley, so I watch another channel.
