The US State Dept has done everything in its power to undermine Chalabi. I am not surprised that they would be advocating for Saddam's old cronies. The Iraqi government is trying to function and seems to have worked hard on this issue, their explanation seems very reasonable. This is exactly the kind of crap that has hindered our military success. How does returning Saddam loyalists to the highest level to power benefit the Iraqi or the American people? It certainly does nothing to dispell the distrust of the US and its propensity for saying one thing and doing another. Besides, the sole purpose of the US State Dept is represent the interests of Americans abroad.
