Pelosi's First Drama

It's an interesting title for a republican rallying piece, insofar as it demonstrates why republicans will be elected to deal with war and terrorism (largely of their own making) and little else. Women have, thankfully, made tremendous strides in the political process; and as difficult as it is for conservatives to swallow, some of them may actually be qualified. Try inserting a man's name in the title - does it still work?

Murtha was for his part a respected congressman until he suggested that perhaps the war was being executed quite badly and maybe we'd really be better off getting the hell out of there now instead of ten years from now, all other things being equal.

It isn't a terrible point, but as we both know, we're still fighting the Vietnam war. What he really failed to understand was not this war but that one; as someone who actually attended that one, he seems not to suffer the collective guilt felt by the civilian military staff that went to college instead of war (failing to recognize, as Kerry, Murtha, and others demonstrated, that one could actually do both). It is interesting to note that, despite the collective guilt at having lost the war, nothing happened. We were never attacked by the Vietnamese. The communists did not take over the western world. Had we left five years earlier, or never fought the war at all, what would we have lost? From a psychological perspective, it fascinates and sickens me at the same time.

Anyway, I strongly encourage your advocacy for a return to Republican principles. Specifically, how about skepticism of nation-building, a balanced budget, and a a distaste for government intrusion into people's personal affairs. Give it a shot, but tell me: if you don't have a war, you don't have a religious crusade against gays, and you actually have to limit spending to pay for tax cuts, who the hell would elect you?

Just repeat after me: Democrats have no principles.... democrats have no principles...
