The Right Kind Of Law
in response to reader comment: Transfer of Responsibility

I think some missed the point here. This aticle provides insight into how our current system of laws prevent citizens from realizing their right to life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness. It outlines the inherent problems created by a few liberals who, in a self serving manner, have decided that our 2nd amendment rights are up for their interpretation.

It mentioned that the recent shootings in Virginia Tech were not foiled by any gun control legislation. In fact it implies, as it well should, that had legislation not prevented people from execrising their second amendment rights perhaps the outcome would have been different. This gunman was not a licensed law abiding citizen.

The idea of an ankle braclet or TSO preventing a person from causing harm is as silly as saying that a speed limit sign will prevent anyone from speeding. You will notice that the only way to prevent a speeder is to either eliminate the limit or have a deterent (police officer) visible. Same goes for serious crime. Criminals will always have access to guns so, like eliminating the speed limit, elimination is not an answer. The next solution, similiar to making the officer visible, is to make guns visible. The knowledge of law abiding citizens being armed is the only deterent to violent crime.

Our police officers cannot be everywhere at all times. While I agree that it is preferred to have a law enforcment individual deal with an armed criminal, I will also state that it is every individuals responsability to protect themselves and their family. When law enforcement is not available it is not just a right, but a responsability for each and every citizen to stop criminals wherever they present themselves. Only through this tough stance against crime, enforced by every law abiding citizen, will the criminals choose a different line of work. Only when the costs outweigh the benefit will a criminal change careers. Because there are limited resources in law enforcement the benefit of crime outweighs the cost, as seen at Virginia Tech.
