‘Issue Ads' Case May Set Limits of Public Discourse in 2008

Submitted by Mr. Average Citizen, Apr 25, 2007 16:21

When I was in school, we learned the the only speeches that were not allowed were slander and selling secrets to the enemy (treason), and some foolish local laws regarding bad language. I can't remember any law except treason where telling the truth could be against the law. Slander was a civil law and could result in a civil law suit, not a government lawsuit.

I was in total disbelief when I first learned that the McCain-Feingold bill was approved by the US Supreme court. Apparently many judges and politicians are attempting to bow down to the wishes of the United Nations, in an attempt the make the United States Constitution sub-servient to the UN constitution. This would completely eliminate the need for the US Constitution. Then it would be easy to prevent free speech, eliminate all guns from being posessed by American citizens, completely open our borders to all, and eventually completely eliminate all of our freedoms.

Our most important freedom, free speech, is being attacked by the McCain-Feingold bill. Foreign citizens had no problems pouring millions, or billions, of dollars into our election system by circumventing the McCain-Feingold bill. However, the organization that I belong to and pay money to represent me is not permitted to provide information to the public that I would like to see published, which is the reason I joined that organization. Hopefully, the US Supreme court will change its opinion regarding the McCain-Feingold bill.
