Developers Mull Uses for Rare Rock Excavated for Tunnels

Submitted by Robert Gilmore, Apr 26, 2007 17:39

I was really impressed by the possibilities of recycling the Manhattan schist rock from the soon to be excavated 2nd Ave. subway tunnel. I was always fascinated with how materiel from excavated sites was recycled to enhance other parts of our city. I was especially amazed by the story of the recycled materiel from the original World Trade Center site used in construction of Battery Park City. I sincerely believe the creation of a supposed $90 million piece of real estate adjacent to the Hudson River and Financial District was the deal of the last half-century of New York real estate.
