A Coast City Bans Outdoor Smoking In Public Places

Submitted by Blake Peterson, Apr 26, 2007 22:32

I'm a college freshman who smokes a cigar maybe once or twice a week. No cigarettes, no drugs, nothings else. My school is a 'non-smoking campus', I can't smoke in the city, I don't own any property where I can smoke. And cigars are a strong smell so I can't really just go in a 'smoking section' at some airport and have one. So basically without risking a fine I can drive out of this city into the middle of nowhere to have a half n' hour cigar, or I have to stop smoking them. All I would like to do is have a cigar every once and a while far away from any people who could breathe in any second-hand smoke. Thats pretty reasonable, I would think. If I am smoking relatively far away from anyone I don't think there's any risk of my cigar smoke reaching any unsuspecting lungs, and overall it's not gonna have any affect on anyone, and most smokers of cigars and pipes have the same story. Now what the hell are we supposed to do? It's OK with me to cut down on smoking places, but if you take away every accessible place for people that are pretty reasonable, you're taking away a pleasant, harmless freedom.
