Just a note from a long-time fan of you and THE AMERICAN SPECTATOR. I was disconsolate when you sold the magazine. I go all the way back to the Seventies with your writing. George Washington Plunkitt is one of my heroes. What I would say in reaction to your column is that timing really is everything. Hillary suddenly seems so tired and passe that I think that Obama will beat her handily in the primaries. No wonder she had shaken up her campaign and sought to bring Bill front and center. The problem is that even if Bill perks up her campaign, it will only cause a contrast to be drawn between her and him. He is likeable. She is shrill. He can fake emotion and sincerity. She always seems false, especially when she is speaking like a black person. I think her moment was 2000, and she missed it. Al Gore entering the race would actually help her by dividing the anti-Hillary vote, which is now going almost exclusively to Obama, or as Ted Kennedy said "Osama Obama." The question now is what "dirty trick" Hillary will try to destroy Obama. She had alread tried and failed with the "Obama is not black enough" tactic. He is still more "black" than she is (Bill, I am not so sure.) She floated a trial baloon with the Islam stuff from Indonesia, and the MSM looked the other way. It was then quickly (and wrongly) discredited so it could be ignored; Obama was a child and the news broke on a "right-wing" website. This avoided having her fingerprints on it, but it was too easily ignored and dismissed. Oddly, she might not be a complete disaster as President, compared to any other wimpy Democrat. She is enough of a cast iron bitch to give the Islamists a surprise or two.
