Okinawa and Us

It may serve the partisan purpose of obscuring George W. Bush's failed wartime leadership, but it butchers the truth to make anything of the analog between 1942 and 2008. In 1942 we were still three years and tens of thousands of casualties away from defeating the Japanese. Five years ago, in May, 2003, Bush declared "the end of major combat." We had defeated Sadam and vanquished the only organized armed forces in Iraq in three months. We had lost 175 US soldiers. The only reasonable (and honest) comparison that can be made between then and now is between the two occupations. One was a success and one has been an utter and avoidable disaster.
