I believe Halkin's assessment is essentially correct. It may well be that Olmert will try now to launch some kind of wild peace- initiative when the Arabs are totally not ready for it.
Another important point. The Iranian threat is not going away. Acting wisely in regard to it is the first task of an Israeli Prime Minister now. Considering the previous failure he does not seem to be the one to know precisely how Israel should act now.
