A Landmark That's Hard To Love

Just because the Landmarks Board is somewhat out of touch with reality...why should the City grant Landmark status to this intrusive eyesore? This is an UGLY building. The first of the UGLY white brick

post Soviet apartment blocks put up during the aesthetic dispair of the post World War II period. That dispair belongs to the Europeans who LOST the war, not to the optimistic Americans who WON the war. Why saddle us visually with this carbunkle of a clunker? Dear Lord, let's show some common sense here.

In the film, The VIP's Margaret Rutherford as the heir to an English pile who is forced to tour America lecturing to raise funds to fix the pile's roof makes the comment to Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton that her home was added to 'During all the wrong periods.;' Let's not make NYC a memorial to 'all the wrong periods.'
