"If he keeps this up, the increasing intensity of voter annoyance might well bring about an anti-Bush, anti-Iraq war, landslide for the Democrats in November 2008. If he were smart, he'd tone his remarks way, way down. But if he were smart would he even be in Iraq?"

This is my fervent hope (the "bring about" part), but the country is so deep in denial, along with your favorite so-called President, that the tide of resentment is, strangely, not yet strong enough to ensure a Republican eclipse.

But Bush's main virtue, if I may laughingly call it that, is His stubborness. I have every confidence that He will continue making hash of the Constitution, laughing at international norms and law, and throwing American citizens' critical concerns back in their faces. You go, Dubya!
