The images of the middle east held by the educated American public when 9/11 hit were those of camels, belly dancers and maybe terrorists. That is all. We were perfect for being conditioned for war against people that we knew nothing about. Most people do not even connect the "cradle of civilization" that they may get in text books or bible studies, with the current Iraq geography; or the historical sites and artifacts destroyed in the current conflicts. The only good of such ignorance is perhaps to help Americans understand how others may see Americans they only know from the horrors of this war.

Parents should be asking for education for all teachers, all educators on the middle east. Getting a gun is easy; spewing out insults handy; learning and having information for critical examination and making choices, like in a democracy, a long process that we must start now.
