A purpose of a third party these days is to take votes more from one party than the other, vis-a -vie Ross Perot. That should certainly be considered by the Mayor in choosing his running mate. Hagel's stance on Iraq and Israel could lead to taking more Democrat votes than Republican, depending on who the Republican Candidate is.
