This is the clearest and most correct summary of Dutch political life I've ever read, and I want to thank Mr Bawer for his precise and unemotional article. Mr Wilders' current fate is also being watched with great dismay by freedom-loving citizens like myself. It's incomprehensible that the Dutch secret service would treat Mr Wilders practically like a criminal for saying all those important truths for which Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Theo van Gogh and Prof. Pim Fortuyn have already had to pay a very high price. Dutch citizens who always spoke their minds frequently, often and most enthusiastically, are now scared to say anything - even though we can see the rise of muslim-activism all around us, with more and more women looking like walking shrouds in our cities. We know from Hirsi Ali's book "My Freedom"(Infidel) and from hers and Theo's brief movie "Submission" that women and girls often are being tortured in the name of Islam behind the closed doors of Islam households right here in our own country. And we are not allowed to do anything or say anything against it -- this is happening in a country which prides itself on the fact that the American Constitution was in a large part, inspired by Dutch Republicanism. Now we have another wishy-washy cabinet, with our Alpha males and females keeping things firmly in hand -- they think. I pray every day that God will keep Mr Wilders alive and safe, but I am very much afraid that the authorities have already decided that he has to go. The news media is smearing and maligning this very decent Catholic citizen just as much now as they did Professor Fortuyn and Ayaan. And Theo van Gogh, who played the "village clown' but spoke the truth very painfully, frequently and loudly as we all used to do, is no longer with us to guide us to see the truth.
