Very interesting report !

The French presidential election of Sarkozy was also a great success for democracy in Europe. French voters turned out in record numbers with 85 percent of the voters casting their ballot. In comparison there was only a 55.3% turnout in the heated US 2004 Presidential election and just 37 % in the year 2000 when George W. Bush was elected for the first time.

However, it is wishful thinking to assume that Sarkozy will be a pushover for America.

In speaking about the French relations with the US he noted: "France will always be by their side when they need her, but that crucially -- friends can sometimes differ." He also focused on climate change, where he highlighted his difference with America."What is at stake is the destiny of mankind. France will make that fight its leading objective", he said.

At a campaign rally he also said: "the messianic side of Americans can be tiresome."

Yes Sarkozy is a friend of America, but he won't be a lapdog like Blair.
