Hepzibah could have saved a lot of time if he had just said "I thank God that we are not like other people". Some people persist in thinking that we are more reasonable, with more legitimate demands than other people. Some people assume that everyone would like to be just like us if they had the chance. Those people who assume that are then appalled when we bestow the honor of being invaded by us culturally, militarily, and economically, and are not welcomed as liberators. Some American people cannot acknowedge the existence of evil in American foreign policy, for if such evil exists there, what does that make us?

And I love the theological logic: if evil exists, perhaps there is a God. Not a Devil. Not a beta version of creation that was accidentally released. Nope: if there's evil, there must be a God. Priceless.
