The National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq plainly stated that we can either expect (best senario) a slow decline in Iraq, or (worst senario) a fast decline. What do Republicans expect in September? It sounds like a political deadline.
Besides, Bush has been claiming progess in Iraq for years. Why do Republicans expect a straight report on progess in Iraq in September? Furthermore, what is a Republican "Plan B," another escalation?
In my opinion, spending more than 8 billion dollars a month, and over-stretching our military, is a poor bargain for a slow decline in Iraq. The only thing that changed is the Republicans got spooked by the Bush's latest approval ratings (28% approval and declining as fast as Iraq). They know their upholding the veto on the Supplimental is unpopular, and they are scared-not for wasting young men's lives, or our national treasure, but for their jobs.
