Residential Parking Permits May Accompany Congestion Tax
in response to reader comment: residential permits are a great idea

Everyone posting here, putting forth their "wisdom" for solving the parking problem here in New York City, particularly in Manhattan, all want to punish the motorist instead of the real culprit....BAD PLANNING! Hurting the motorist is not the answer. It is a "feel good" response to a genuine issue. Why hasn't anyone put forth the idea that we need more parking spaces...a LOT more. And these parking spaces should be FREE. That's right FREE! Imagine thousands of parking spaces, ever few blocks. Free parking for everybody! But here's the catch....NO parking on the street. I just returned from my first visit to Las Vegas, and I marveled at the genius and simplicity of their parking arrangements. There is no parking on the street. All the parking, with THOUSANDS of parking spots are all incorporated into in-door multi-level parking garages, and all the parking is FREE! This encourages business, and keeps the streets moving no matter what the congestion. Everyone feels welcome. Money is pouring into Las Vegas, and not just from gambling. Conventioneers and shoppers more than outnumber the gamblers. Real estate prices there are booming. Building is booming. And the motorist is allowed to pursue the Constitutions promise of the pursuit of happiness.
