Judy, I got a lot out of your insights on Tenet's book. As someone who was there with a sideline seat for this chapter of our history, you have a unique perspective on Tenet's perspective. And I, like most, share your opinion that this book raises as many questions as it answers.
The one thing it does do, in my opinion, is put another nail in the coffin of the reputation of Bush's inner circle - particularily Condelessa Rice. While Tenet did get the WMD analysis wrong, he was on top of the Al Qaeda threat even if he DIDN'T expand the team tracking OBL after his 1998 "declaration of war". It was Rice and Bush who dropped two red-hot warnings in the summer of '01.
And, on the question of the post-war occupation plan - or lack thereof - I'm again amazed that everyone seems to overlook the detailed plan prepared by the State Department that was ignored by the Pentagon on one of the many examples of Rumsfelds hubris. There WAS a plan, it was just ignored. How could Tenet have overlooked that little detail?
Perhaps the most disturbing aspect of the drama of the past six years of the Bush Presidency is the continued lack of serious investigaive reporting on the many crimes and misdemenors of the Bush Administration. Bill Moyer's insightful program, "Buying the War", is perhaps the best and most insightful piece of journalism on what has happened to the Fourth Estate. I'd love to know what you thought of that program.
