Despite Being No. 2 for Health, Taiwan Is Blocked From WHO

Submitted by Roger C. S. Lin, May 15, 2007 00:29

ROC/Taiwan cannot be a member of the WHO because it is not a country. ROC/Taiwan does not meet the Montevideo Convention's criteria for statehood. Most precisely, there has never been any legal transfer of the territorial sovereignty of "Formosa and the Pescadores" (aka Taiwan) to the Republic of China. Hence, without legal title to these areas, ROC/Taiwan is not a country. In fact Taiwan is occupied territory of the United States. The ROC is a subordinate occupying power and government in exile. There has been no change in this status from late 1949 to date.
