Israel should relinquish sovereignty over the Temple Mount because Moslem mosques stand on it? Follow that logic and a whole lot of sovereign nations are going to look like Swiss cheese. Because of "herds of animals [to be] led to it for daily sacrifice"? Herds is certainly an exagerration, but that aside, did I miss it, or has the world gone vegetarian? Or is slaughtering animals with a spiritual purpose somehow 'pagan' and 'primitive', as opposed to the millions of animals slaughtered each day and turned into hamburgers, etc. for the sole purpose of physical gratification? There happen to be a great many religious Jews who feel quite strongly about the Temple Mount. These Jews are regularly regarded as potential terrorists by the Israeli police simply for wanting to ascend the Mount to visit the site of the Temple, and thereby fulfilling the commandment of showing reverence for the Temple. Furthermore the right of freedom of worship for these Jews (guaranteed by Israeli law) is constantly violated as the police do not allow Jews to even move their lips in prayer while visiting the Mount, so as not to "offend" the Moslems. Do so much as look lke you are praying, and you will be (if you are visibly a religious Jew) physically dragged off the Mount by the police. Perhaps the first step Israel should do to consolidate her hold on the Temple Mount is simply to enforce the rule of law and democracy. Allowing the murderously anti-semitic Moslem Wakf to call the shots certainly is leading to no good for anyone.
