At state universities, tuition is the LOWEST cost component. Parents often overlook all of the other costs - room & board, fees, books, tranpsortation back & forth home, spending money. A school like SUNY, whose tuition is around $5000, but all of the other costs are around $10,000. The colleges need to control their costs to curb the annual 5-7% increases in cost of attendance. Cutting federal aid will not matter much since almost 60% is loans anyway. Annual college cost increase and faculty salaries need to be controlled so college can become an affordable reality for every family.
