Lessons in the Beauty of Brahms

Its amazing how different people can have different reactions to the same event. My impressions are so different from those of Mr Kirshnit that I have to wonder if he is the Imus of music critics! What I heard coming from Ms. Fischer's violin the evening of Thursday April 19 was a kaleidoscope of violin color set within a very golden aura. When not sparkling like stars in a January night sky, her notes are sweet and refulgent. Further her playing is characterized by a profound and lyrical sensitivity, but when it is called for, she delivers fiery and exciting passagework with flawless technique and intonation. All this was very evident where I sat on that most memorable Thursday night! I have heard many many violinists play the Brahms on record and in concert, and this was the first time I heard it played this well!
