To Veil or Not To Veil: The Pelosi Question

Submitted by John, May 16, 2007 09:08

I applaud the muslim women who, having decided they do not believe in the veil, choose not to wear it - in some cases at great personal risk.

Speaker Pelosi is not a muslim. She is an elected official of the people of the United States of America, serving as a diplomat in this particular case. She's trying to communicate to the middle east is that we do not want to rule over them, that we are not going to convert them or change them. We want to live in peace with them, if they'll let us.

What better way than to show deference to one of their customs?

She is not a speaker for muslim women. As you've pointed out, muslim women are capable of speaking for themselves. No, she is our Speaker, and I applaude what she's saying.
