Vonnegut's Name Proposed for 48th and Second Avenue

Submitted by Howard Mandel, May 16, 2007 09:29

Longtime admirers of Kurt Vonnegut know that he deserves a New York street named after him -- but he wrote much of his best work before moving to New York City, from his home in Barnstable, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. He wrote a very funny essay on this town once, about an encyclopedia salesman trying to upgrade the information services at the Barnstable Yacht Club (which consists of a pier, a shed, and a couple of tennis courts). Knowing Barnstable a little, I think it's unlikely the town will dedicate anything to Kurt's memory. I hope I'm wrong, if so it goes.
