Warhol Vs. the Dow

Submitted by Sir Joshua, May 16, 2007 09:51

Back in the '50's and '60's the rich wanted images on their walls that their rich friends would immediately recognize. The Impressionists ruled. Monet Waterlillies were everywhere. It took real wildcards to buy a Goya. Now with Warhol reproduced everywhere everyone knows what one looks like and everyone with .50 cents in their pocket wants one. It is a symbol of their success and achievement to be able to afford one. Of course the rich and famous (notorious) wouldn't sell theirs. They've got billions besides...and without it no one would know who they are. Believe me, it wasn't their taste that drew them to Warhol, it was the buzz.
