It is much more likely that Pope Benedict is drawing on the Eastern Christian Tradition (the Orthodox Church) for his mystical insights than to the Protestant world which was a rebellion against Rome's initial desertion of the full (Catholic) Tradition embodied in the first 1000 years of Christianity.
