Having taken two painfully slow busses from W57 to E42 totaling over 45 minutes (which would have been an hour had I not gotten out and walked), I have trouble imagining how it is more "egalitarian" to have NYC taxpayers footing the bill for roads that are clogged mostly by suburban commuters and others who pay nothing but parking fees.

Yes, the devil is in the details, which is why I much prefer a group of privately funded experts reforming the system and charging according to use and convenience. Roads are a service, fundamentally no different than any other service. We already pay for them, why not pay someone who knows what they are doing?
