I would have had no issues with Derek Jeter winning the MVP. In fact, he's really the only player besides Justin Morneau who could have made a legitimate case. Having said that, Morneau was an obvious choice. He had trouble hitting in April and May and the Twins were 25-33. He righted himself after a meeting with his manager on June 7. After that point in the season, Minnesota was the best team in baseball. Not a coincidence. Joe Mauer and Johan Santana, as they are wont to do, were consistently outstanding all season long. The Twins only won consistently when Morneau was on. It's also not a coincidence that Michael Cuddyer and Torii Hunter, batting before and after Morneau, respectively, had career years at the plate. Because of where the Twins were in early June, every game the rest of the way was huge! That fact makes Morneau's run even more amazing. It's sad that Derek Jeter has never won an MVP but to suggest he deserved it more than Justin Morneau simply doesn't consider all of the facts of their and their teams' game situations over the course of the 2006 season.
