Train to JFK May Lose to Second Avenue Line

Submitted by Art Fougner, May 21, 2007 09:18

Mayor Mike should not be allowed to foist this boondoggle on working New Yorkers who commute from the other boros into Manhattan to contribute to the NY economy until a significant upgrade is performed on Mass Transit. He's obviously miffed that his scheme to put tolls on the East River bridges was a nonstarter, so he's launched this ever more grandiose plan which will sure drive even more business out of NY. For the average middle class commuter, a two hr bus/subway commute would be a difficult alternative to paying $8 to get to a job which pays too little after taxes to make it worthwhile. While Bloomberg's long term goal is laudable, it's how we get there from here which makes all the difference. Before applying this new commuter tax, fix the transit system to make the commute a far better alternative for all New Yorkers.
