Covert negotiations devised a comprehensive Senate immigration bill we can all agree is the best we can hope for. We defines a handful of individuals muddling through their own massively tangled logics, disconnected from our national heritage. The other we are the American citizens who see through this conundrum of provisions designed to wrench the nation from the path of immigration and assimilation, which has refreshed our people, and renewed commitment to our ideals with each new generation. Passage of this legislation erases "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" to substitute existence, dependency and the guarantee of materialism.
