City High Schools Shut Out From Newsweek's Top 100

Submitted by Hilary Hinds, May 22, 2007 06:39

Stuyvesant High School students are urged to take AP tests but often don't. Why not? Because the tests are seen as a racket, just like the National Merit Scholarship is. They are expensive, irrelevant in the college application process if taken senior year, and of no value as "credits" in most of the colleges they will be going to. Sophisticated students don't play into the hands of the testing and the rest of the education industry eager to make money off of their pursuit of an education.
