City Takes Big Step Forward in Emergency Preparedness

Submitted by X, May 22, 2007 16:18

Every experienced disaster preparedness and security director knows well that any major operation center should be underground, deep underground. If I need to explain why, then the wrong people are in charge.

Even the movies show command centers are always underground. You are not telling me Hollywood writers have one up on the cities OEM. Maybe, the real issue is closet phobia. 50 million big ones… One mistake, then another…. It just keeps growing…. Will they ever learn? Has anyone know seen the high tech mobile emergency command center? I heard it fell in a pothole somewhere downtown. I wonder how well that monster will do when there is rubble everywhere and no cleared roads. At least they'll have hot coffee.

I agree with the mayor, Chief Kelly is a no-nonsense individual and OEM should immediately move under his jurisdiction. That is, if we want a safer NYC. At least, the chief is not afraid to step up to the plate and accept responsibility. My vote is with him, let the voting begin.
