Pope ‘Reaffirms' Celibacy Rule for Priests

I appreciate the concern of so many who feel that the Catholic Church may loose its ground in Europe and America due to lack of priests. I also appreciate their thinking that the Church should grant marriage so as to solve this problem.

I don't think that celibacy is what is responsible and that if priests are allowed to marry, the problem would be solved. In the first place, I don't think we should be so warried for the future of the Catholic Church. The Church belongs to God and if it is loosing grounds due to lack of priests, it should worry God more than us. We should stop thinking for God. If it is the will of God whom we believe he is all in control to let the Church die, please let it die.....

To grant priests the chance to marry is to solve problem with problem.

I advice the Catholic Church to appreciate the growth of Vocations to the Catholic priesthood in other parts of the world like Africa, harvest it and distribute to the rest of the world. The Church is not a political or Color game, where ever vocation is growing now, it should be encouraged. Notice that some dioceses in Africa have plenty of Vocations but no money to train the candidates in the seminary. Why not assist them and promote this holy profession. Afterall, Europe evangelized Africa when they had enough vocations, many Europeans died in Africa for the sake of the Gospel.

Cheers!

Illah Agbene.
