you might want to pick up "Guns, Germs, and Steel". 95% of the native population was wiped out by diseases incubated in crowded European cities for generations. The Europeans had evolved at least partial immunity to these diseases - the natives had none. While disease was sometimes intentionally introduced, there was hardly any need. This played out again and again, starting with Cortez and Meso-America.
As much as you would like to feel guilty for genocide, you are not entitled to do so.
