City Poll Shows Divide In Support for Drive Tax

Submitted by Walter McCaffrey, May 25, 2007 06:55

The advocates for congestion pricing do not want New Yorkers to hear the full truth...the real tax will be like London's version at $16 or more rather than $8...that it would cost nearly a quater of a billion dollars to run...that there are no legal guarantees that there would be a net increase for mass transit improvements...that the cost of goods and services for customers would be increased...that offsetting the cost of tolls will not modify driving patterns.

After months of pushing their position, the best the advocates have done is to have Park Avenue convince Fifth Avenue that this scheme is good. A public policy that divides New Yorkers in a bad policy.

There has to be a better way to address the problems of traffic congestion that will get the job done without harming New Yorkers in the process.
