What is the problem with a health care system that allows everyone, rich and poor, old and young, weak or strong, able bodied or not, that is comprehensive and maybe even free at point of service?
It seems to work very well across Europe. Or do you want a health care system that is elitist and only provides cover for those medical issues that are cheap and short term? The ever increasing cost of health insurance is a major factor for small and medium businesses. Even large businesses are not immune - look at Chrysler.
For families the problem becomes even more acute. Pay the rent, or mortgage, or get that essential operation or medication? Or pay to get health care abroad?
For immigrants, just say, "not paid in, no free or low cost care". Simple. provide checkable, proof that you have paid into the system and you get the care. If not then you have to pay. Bit like most health successful health care systems in Europe.
For those people who want the choice they can buy their health service just like now.
What is more important people or money?
