Pie vs. Pie

I minimized the amount of trans fats on my main entree this thanksgiving/: Turkey, Stuffing, Fresh sweetened cramberries instead of the canned cramberries. I reduced the amount of mashed potatoes (Because my father used margarine on it), and I read the labels on everyting before knowing what I skipped to avoid the trans-fat traps that are in it.

Hard to imagine, but some of these packaged vegtables have trans fatty partially hydrogenated oils (Oh, how could they do this to such a healthy portion). Thankfully, I read the package before I dared to eat what's on the table.

I tell you, I bought trans-fat free, all-natural blueberry pie at the Whole Foods Store, and it was still scrumptious, but I only had a minimal amount. My father bought two more pies claming to be trans fat free (Pumpkin and Apple). The apple one was truely trans free as I didn't find the word "hydrogenated", but the pumpkin had hydrogenated oils on it. So I skipped the pumpkin and instead ate the blueberry pie. And that blueberry pie was still scrumptious despite the missing trans fats it has.

So One's things for sure. Trans fat is arsenic that does not have to be in our food supply. they are so bad for you, they are not only worse than saturated fats, they are far worse. Trans fats raises LDL cholesterol faster than saturated fats, and they also lower HDL, reduces HDL function, and they not only damage arteries, they also damage arteries despite the consumption of walnuts, unlike walnuts that stops saturated fats from damaging arteries. Not only that, trans fats still goes around damaging arteries longer than saturated fats does.

On the end, Trans fats are not only terrable for you, they are unneccesary to have as an ingredient. Instead of using Crisco, use butter, coconut oil, unhydrogenated lard, or palm oil.

And as allways, happy holidays.
