The U.S. (Bush/Pentagon) tried to keep quiet what was happening at Al-Udeid air force base after that Qatar base was accelerated in growth following a U.S. pull-out from Saudi Arabia. Although Al-Udeid was well-organized and functioning long before the 9/11 terror attack, the White House has used news releases to trick the general population into thinking that Al-Udeid was primarily started in response to the terror attack. This is a monstrously large Qatar air force base built with billions of American dollars in addition to contributions from the emir of Qatar and the build-up is continuing.
Personally, I think we need this military resource in the Middle East but what I do not like are the Bush Administration's phony news releases and quarantining of news to restrict details of what is happening. Obviously, Bush thinks the public is really stupid and he is dishonest in his communications. Although there has been some info available such as a CNN documentary years ago and internet web sites with detailed satellite digital photography, there is a lot of info being hidden.
We, as Americans, cannot change what has been done in Qatar without our knowledge but I think that we all need to know just how many billions of dollars more will be poured into Al-Udeid. After all, I think that the emir of Qatar could ask the Americans to leave (without all the investments in the base).
