Without small market teams the league would diminish to a purely cosmopolitan game. Kids in west-Texas, southern Utah, western North Carolina and other like areas will not ever be drawn to the game because smaller states would lack teams. Not all talent comes from New York City and Chicago; Carlos Boozer came from Juneau, Alaska. It will always be in the leagues interest to have the small market teams and to support them a little so they do not lose money so easily on a bad year.
