Since I don't teach in CT, I can't be sure if they've ditched grammar, history, civics and upper-level mathematics, but I really doubt it. I'm a high school teacher in Florida, where we have plenty of problems, but my students certainly know how to speak and write correctly. I teach precalculus, statistics and calculus, for which they get college credit as well as high school credit. Most of my students are in dual-enrolled history, english and science classes as well. Somehow they find time to perform with the choir with the local symphony, put on plays they've written as well as classics such as "Annie" and show their art at local shows. Oh, they also do community service with the Rescue Mission, Boys and Girls Clubs, nursing homes and other places.

You sound like a bitter person who really can't stand the fact that society is changing in ways you don't like. Perhaps you should make some efforts to help out in your local schools rather than throw stones.

By the way, the word is spelled federal.
