For Peace With Iran, Israel Should Get MAD

Submitted by Scott Baker, Jun 2, 2007 22:26

Yes, I agree with Ms. Lawrence and the other writers in that it is the supreme (council's?) irony that we are chastising Iran for persuing Nuclear non-oil energy solutions when that is what we should be doing ourselves to wean ourselves off middle east oil. Maybe they know something we don't about the precariousness of their own reserves. In any case, my point still stands, that if we want Iran to behave - not just on this nuclear issue, but on supporting a proxy war in Iraq (against US - where we should not be, as if we needed yet another reason), Lebenon and against Israel, and to stop funding/supplying terrorists, the best way is, to borrow a phrase used in another context, to 'starve the beast.' In the 90s, when oil was cheap, we didn't hear so much out of these rogue states. Now they feel emboldened and are laughing at us all the way to the bank. It's time to stop funding both sides of the war, get tough on ourselves and innovate our way to energy independence. We can't defeat the whole middle east, nor shoudl we try. It is wrong, and we have to develop alternatives and let them swim in their own oily irrelavence.
