Ganging Up on God

Submitted by Jenni Simonis, Jun 5, 2007 19:07

Had you been in Santa Fe all those years and seen how the school board members acted and treated people on the other side, you would have understood what my mom meant when she made that comments.

We were threatened and harassed for years over this issue. The school board members were very sure they were going to win. And they weren't afraid to tell the rest of us this.

One talked about how he'd fall on his Judeo-Christian sword to keep the religion in schools.

We were told for years that we were wrong, we were evil, we were the devil, etc. and that we would lose.

They were 100% sure they were completely in the right and that we were just a bunch of outcasts and freaks who should be chased out of town.

Had this been a few decades earlier, we might have even seen the "hanging tree" outside of town used for more than just the lynching of African Americans (we had threats that ranged from drive by shootings to bombings).

Had you lived through this daily for more than 6 years, you would have understood.

It's a big reason why as soon as I had the chance to move out of the area, I left.
