Anti-Prostitution Pledge Case To Be Heard

Submitted by Cecilia, Jun 6, 2007 03:34

Dear People I think the government is right to demand that the AIDS groups pledge against prostitution to receive government funding. Such funding is a privilege, not a right. If you don't like the governments requirements, start a fundraising campaign and get your own money. Meanwhile there are some good reasons to tie government aid to a pledge against prostitution. For one thing there is the human rights/anti-slavery angle to consider. Many of the women working in the sex trade are slave girls who are in the sex trade against their wills. To fail to protest this despicable violation of these women's human rights, or worse, to wink at it, is to do a great disservice to these abused women, and ultimately to human decency. Why should a group get government funding if they are going to accept and abet this kind of abuse? Second, prostitution spreads AIDS. You have a group of women who have sex with tens of strangers every day and night. They have a very high chance of contracting AIDS, and passing it on. Condoms are a joke when it comes to preventing AIDS. Condoms don't always prevent pregnancy when a woman is only fertile for three days a month. You can get AIDS any day of the month. Also the AIDS virus is many times smaller than a sperm, and can pass through a much smaller hole or leak in the condom. Condoms may stop some AIDS, but with the number of partners a prostitute has, she is going to catch AIDS from a leaky condom eventually, and eventually pass it to another customer through yet another leaky condom. That doesn't even take into account the customers who demand sex without a condom. In many male dominated cultures, if the man demands something, he gets it, especially if he is high status and his partner is "just a prostitute." It is ironic that groups that claim to be working to stop the spread of AIDS would object to pledging against something that is greatly fueling the AIDS epidemic. This is political correctness gone crazy to the point where it no longer pretends to care about the human rights of abused slave women. Ceecee
