As a Hmong woman born in the United States, I am shocked and sad. I cannot believe that our Hmong Leaders have been arrested. Although I never expressed the desire to return to Laos, I know my parents and elders never wanted to leave Laos and dream of returning in this lifetime or the next. When they talk of their death, they always talk of going back home to Laos. My own father and many other Hmong leaders who were involved in the war cannot return to their homeland--they would face death. The media is protraying the Hmong Leaders as terrorist. I have to point out that the United States declare war and take up arms against other nations. No one likes to bring up the many deaths that the United States cause in the name of Freedom. In reality, many wars are fought for natural resources and capital gain. General Vang Pao is fighting for freedom from communism and freedom for his people. I am afraid to even visit Laos, the birthplace of my parents because people are still fighting and dying there. I hope that these charges get dropped. For years, the Hmong people have been fighting for freedom in Laos, and the US government has not been able to completely help those in Laos. If these leaders took drastic action, I do not blame them. They wanted to return home in this lifetime--not after death.
