I spent the winter of 82-83 living in a tent on the apron of the taxiway of Beirut International Airport. As a Marine, I got to know many people in the surrounding area and came to the conclusion that most Lebanese citizens truly wanted nothing more than to chance to live in peace with their neighbors. It didn't matter whether the person I spoke with was Christian, Muslim or otherwise, the people whose lives are lived day to day in the streets and the towns just wanted to live without fear of war.
