Mike's congestion pricing scheme amounts to restoration of the commuter tax to include those New Yorkers who live in the other four boroughs. For many middle class NY'ers who live in Queens and work in Manhattan, the choice between an $8 dunning and taking two buses to get to a subway is Hobsonian at best. Additionally, the transit infrastructure of NYC is clearly unready for any significant increase in riders at the present time. If Mike's scheme becomes a fait accompli, at least set up more muni parking lots and suttle trains prior to institution of the new commuter tax. That would be the right thing to do.
