It is fine that Mr. Klein's detector can compare text from the Web to text in student papers. It is great that the two can be then put side by side and all doubt removed.
The case of Floyd Landis is quite different. Only Floyd pedaled his bike on Stage 17. That can be viewed from tapes of the entire stage.
The amount of testosterone found in his urine was not above normal. What the lab found abnormal using procedures performed in a questionable fashion by the same lab technician rechecking her work was that a ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone was out of the normal range. Lab work that has as its consequence the stripping of the title of winner of the Tour de France must be above reproach. The lab work performed by the lab in question has numerous errors and doubtful assumptions. The USADA were not able to defend their lab work instead they resorted to character assassination and guilt by association tactics.
Bottom line, for Floyd there are no two blocks of text to lay side by side and the lab has used up all the sample preventing any fair outside confirmation of the result.
